Sunrise EquiTherapy has been an excellent opportunity for me to work with really great people who love horses. It's always a pleasure to volunteer my time to people who are so enthusiastic about what they're doing. The kids that I've worked with always bring a smile to my face and are thoroughly entertaining. Working with Sam for example is always a joy as he's very creative and energetic, it's very tempting to just let him start talking and see what he'll come up with, but keeping him busy on the horse is an excellent way to keep him focused and extend his attention span. When little Sam hugged me after his ride and gave the horse some treats it brings everything about life into perspective. The riders are always grateful and it's so fun to watch them progress. I learned about the program through a "horse world" connection and was extremely pleased to see the phenomenal care that the horses receive and therefore happy to assist. In our busy lives it seems impossible to donate time for things like this, but even as a busy college student I find it well worth my time and energy to give a few hours >a week to someone who's doing what they love and may not have otherwise received the kind of fulfillment and therapy a horse brings.
