Katie began her experience with the program when she was required to secure community service hours for a Citizen Issues class. The program was more then happy to have her as a volunteer since she is an accomplished horse person. She has shown Arabians for over ten years and has obtained many regional and national wins. Like Pat her duties were many. But one duty she loved was exercising the therapy horses and selecting and training new therapy horses.
Even though her commitment was completed Katie continued working with the program for the next three years and discovered a love for working with special needs individuals. While at UNL, Katie encouraged her sorority, Gamma Phi Beta to support our program by donating funds raised from their yearly French Toast Feed. Upon graduation from UNL with a degree in education and an emphasis on special education, Katie put her two loves together, horses and teaching.
