Sunrise EquiTherapy | Volunteer Testimonials - JoEtta Jarecke, M. Ed.

Sunrise EquiTherapy, Inc. is a therapeutic riding program that offers individuals with disabilities the unique opportunity to ride for recreation with the help of trained volunteers who teach not only riding skills but provide a genuine compassion for the physical and emotional well-being of all who participate. There is a lot of literature that supports the use of therapeutic riding for improving a child’s physical well-being based on the idea that the rhythmic, variable, repetitive movements of the horse provide sensory input to improve cognitive skills, balance, posture and strength to the individual rider. Once you see or participate in a therapy session, you will become an avid promoter of Sunrise EquiTherapy, Inc. which has brought a bright new dimension to the lives of all who participate. I believe that exercising the spirit is as important as exercising the body. It is immeasurable to see the improved confidence and self-esteem that evolves within a client being able to control a powerful 1,000 pound horse and the unconditional bonds with the horse and volunteers. As a resource teacher in a public school, I know the value of a student developing effective means of reducing and coping with stress, frustration, and emotional problems due to a disability. Keeping socially active, setting specific yet flexible goals and having the perseverance to accomplish goals are some attributes that promote success and reduces stress. These successes attributes are part of the therapy sessions which the student does not realize he or she is actually accomplishing. Sunrise EquiTherapy, Inc. provides youth and adults with a disability an integrated treatment program that is educational, fun and therapeutic.
