Sunrise EquiTherapy | Horse Show 2009
2009 Horse Show Was a Huge Success!!

The 4th Annual Sunrise EquiTherapy Open Horse Show on June 20-21st at the Lancaster Event Center, indoor arena, was a huge success!  This was the first year to have a two day show and a silent auction.  The weather cooperated perfectly after rain the day before.

The show has grown from 10 horses the 1st year for the show to 80 horses this year and from 35 entries to 275 entries.  People came from all over the state and from as far away as Kansas.  Our judges were Morgan Marshall from the UNL Judging Team and Mindy Leach, President of the UNL Equestrian Team.

Several riders from Sunrise entered in the Special Needs classes but also participated in some of the able bodied classes as well.  Rachel Moon tried her hand at goat tying and Jason entered the Walk Trot Class 11-17 years, a bit overwhelming as there were 14 in the class!  Sunrise Arabian horse Shaamus was shown by Jason Lynn in walk trot and showmanship.  Blues, who is owned by the UNL Equine Program, was shown by Rachel in barrels, walk trot and showmanship.

The Exhibition Area, that is adjacent to the arena, was a perfect place to set up the concessions, entry table, Sunrise information table, and the silent auction tables.  The silent auction, which was held on Saturday, had over 55 articles ranging from an English saddle to landscape design to Salt Dogs tickets to art work.  Thanks to all those individuals and businesses that helped make this part of the show a huge success!

Sunrise adult rider, Terri Koster, gave an inspiring demonstration to the song You Raise Me Up, by Josh Groban  She has been riding with the program for 4 years.  Terri has advanced from utilizing sidewalkers and a leader to grooming, tacking up and riding independently.  You can read her story.  View News Article.

This successful show could not have been possible without all the volunteer help and donations from businesses and individuals.  Thanks to all of you who helped with setting up on Friday and taking down on Sunday, concessions, announcing, entries, stall reservations, silent auction, running the gates, handing out trophies and ribbons, ring master duties, trailering in Sunrise horses, cleaning stalls for the Sunrise horses and assisting Sunrise riders with the classes they entered and etc...  The list continues to include many other jobs as well.  It was a great crew for sure!

Thank you thank you and thank you again for believing in what we do to enhance the lives of those individuals through equine assisted therapy!

Plans have been set for next years show, June 19-20 at the LEC.  The show bill is being developed and we will start securing silent auction items in January.

If you would like more information about the show or want to contribute to the silent auction please contact Julie Wood, 402-781-2781.
