Sunrise EquiTherapy | Guidelines for Riding

To all Riders/Clients and Families

  • The initial evaluation will consist of a tour of the facility, meet the horses, fit helmets, decide the type of tack, set 3 goals for the riders, mount, ride and dismount and have fun!
  • Sunrise upholds a weight limitation of the rider for safety and animal welfare.
  • Please pick-up a Risk Management document that addresses what we do in case of an emergency.
  • Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the scheduled time and wait until we are ready. If you are 10 minutes late, the lesson will be canceled and no refunds or make-up lessons can be given.
  • Please keep the drive into the arena area clear.
  • Families are not permitted in the arena area. Please keep children from climbing on the gates/fences anywhere at the facility. Children must be supervised at all times .
  • Horses in the pasture/lot area outside or in the stalling area should not be petted unless supervised by a volunteer. Horses do BITE!!
  • You may bring treats for the horses, carrots or special horse treats are the best. Treats can be given only in a bucket, no hand feeding, and a volunteer or instructor must be present when giving treats .
  • Please bring lawn chairs; something to drink for the rider and yourself and take the empty containers with you, there is no garbage service.
  • Bring mosquito repellent.
  • Riders should wear boots or “Ropers” if possible, Tack and Togs of Lincoln has lots of boots to chose from that are slightly used. Boots that fit above the ankle offer good support and keeps the dirt from getting inside.
  • Pants/jeans must have a flat seam on the inner leg to keep from rubbing against the inner leg. Leggings, snug fitting sweat pants are great. No shorts unless permission is given by the instructor.
  • Gloves are an option, they help with gripping. Tight fitting gardening gloves work really great.
  • Bring a sweatshirt or jacket.
  • Please don’t bring pets, even if they stay in the car.
  • Smoking is not allowed anywhere at the facility.
  • Lessons will be cancelled due to heat if the temperature is above 90º or below 30º, call the weather line, 476-9211. The lesson will be made-up.
  • If lessons are terminated because of weather conditions, during lesson time, it is still considered a lesson. Groundwork, grooming, videos or other activities will be implemented for the remainder of the lesson time. There will be no refunds or make-up lesson.
  • Lessons will be cancelled due to thunderstorms/tornado/flood warnings/watches prior to lesson time. Lessons will be rescheduled. Please listen to the radio and TV for weather announcements; the facility is located 1 1/2 miles South of HWY 2 on 176th St. Contact Julie if you have questions.
  • No refunds are given if lessons are terminated by the rider/parent/guardian for other than medical reasons with physician’s authorization. The director must be contacted within reasonable time.
  • If you must cancel due to illness, etc. the instructor must know 4 hours in advance so volunteers can be contacted. We have volunteers that drive many miles to help us and we owe them the courtesy of advance notice.
  • Refunds are not given if the rider is a “no show.”
  • Only come to the facility when you have scheduled lessons .
  • Please leave as soon as possible after the lesson is completed due to parking issues and clearing the way for the volunteers to get ready for the next lesson. If you wish to stay for any reason, please check with the instructor.

We thank Dr. Sheila Scheideler for allowing us to use her facility.

FEES

$40.00 per Lesson, once a week for 6 weeks

*** An evaluation fee is built into the lesson fee.

Payment for lessons can be made in full or in two installments: The first half $120.00 is due before the first lesson, the second half $120.00 is due before the fourth lesson. FYI, it costs Sunrise more then double the fee you pay to run our program. We rely on donations to make ends meet and to run the program. If you know of anyone or any organizations that may help support through donations, please contact Julie. Your help with our program would be most appreciated. We are a non-profit/tax deductible program.
