My daughter Amy & I became involved with Sunrise EquiTherapy when our Arabian show horse, we were leasing, was ready to retire from the show ring. The owner decided Rajati still had many good years left, so he chose to donate him to Sunrise. Rajati was Amy’s first horse so we decided to become active in the program to stay close to him. Needless to say, we both fell in love with the program and the wonderful work that is being done. Amy’s job is a horse leader and she also warms up the horses before lessons. This is rewarding and therapeutic for her to be with Rajati and all the other therapy horses. I have the rewarding job of being a sidewalker. The close contact with the client is great. I love being right beside the rider and seeing the huge smiles and also the focus and determination to complete a task. I like to high five upon completion of a task! Working with challenged adults and children and watching them receive the benefits from riding or from just being around the horses is an indescribable joy for Amy and me. It is an awesome experience! I recommend this to anyone whether or not you’re involved with horses, it’s beyond rewarding!
